Towards European-wide Recognition of Hydrogen-Related Qualifications and Training
Europe’s hydrogen ambitions depend on people. Developing the skills and knowledge needed to turn research and innovation into practice is essential to the sector’s future. How can Europe make hydrogen-related qualifications more transparent, comparable and transferable across countries, while ensuring that education and training meet the sector’s evolving needs?
Hydrogen Europe Research’s Autumn 2026 thematic publication addresses these questions by bringing together our white paper, “Towards European-wide Recognition of Hydrogen-Related Qualifications and Training”, and contributions from our members showcasing educational programmes, training resources and learning initiatives.
The publication explores:
How existing European instruments and national qualification systems can support the recognition of hydrogen-related qualifications.
Key barriers to recognition, including fragmented learning outcomes, inconsistent links with qualification frameworks, limited portability of credentials and weak coordination between education providers and industry.
How research organisations, universities, industry and training providers can work together to develop relevant skills.
Examples of initiatives across our membership that are helping to build the hydrogen workforce of the future.
By bringing together policy recommendations and practical examples from our members, this publication sets out a roadmap towards the recognition of hydrogen-related qualifications across Europe. It identifies concrete actions to align learning outcomes, link training to national and European qualification frameworks, strengthen quality assurance and improve the portability of credentials. This roadmap provides a blueprint for stakeholders to move towards practical implementation and build a more coherent approach to skills recognition across Europe.
